Request Air Conditioning Service

A HVAC contractor will be able to winterize your air conditioner so it’ll be ready for the following summer. Air conditioner maintenance can save you money in the long run because it gives us the chance to fix minor issues before they grow into expensive repairs.

Remove Window AC Units

Remove window AC units and store them inside your house. Otherwise, the snow and ice could damage the delicate components of your AC unit and reduce its lifespan. If you live in an upstairs apartment, you may want to hire one of our HVAC contractors to safely remove the unit so it doesn’t fall on anyone walking on the sidewalk below. Window AC units are heavy and bulky, which is why many people prefer to trust our HVAC contractors to remove them before winter.

Clear Tall Grass and Leaves

Don’t wait until spring to clean up your yard. If you think the grass around your AC unit is tall now, just wait until the spring rains. Your air conditioning unit will run much more efficiently when its air flow isn’t blocked by tall grass. You’ll also need to remove the dead leaves that fall around and inside your unit.

Replace Filter

The air filter is responsible for trapping contaminants like dirt, dust, pollen, and pet hair. How often you change the filter will depend on the model of your air conditioning unit, as well as whether you have pets or allergies.

Once the air filter is clogged, less air is able to pass through. Your air conditioner is then forced to work harder to produce the same amount of cool air, increasing energy bills and shortening the lifespan of the unit.

Clean Air Conditioner Coils

Your air conditioner can’t run efficiently when the coils are dirty. To clean the coils, you’ll need to first shut off the power to the air conditioner via the thermostat before unscrewing the bolts in the outdoor unit’s access panel. We recommend filling a spray bottle with a solution of mild detergent and warm water.

Spray the evaporator coils and give it some time to loosen accumulated debris. After a few minutes, wipe the coils using a brush or soft cloth. Give the unit enough time to dry before replacing the access panel. One of our HVAC contractors can also clean the coils during air conditioning service.

Cover Outdoor Unit

Cover your outdoor unit with a tarp and weigh it down with rocks or bricks. This will prevent moisture and outdoor debris like twigs from getting inside the unit. You should be able to easily find a tarp at your local home improvement store. An air conditioner cover will help keep the unit in good shape over the winter months.
